The Tree of
IRIX 7

IRIX 7 is a clean-room, Rust-native operating system for the SGI Indy: the successor SGI might have built, running IRIX 6.5 binaries unchanged.

The Tree is its living roadmap. The roots are the foundations, the trunk is the control plane, and every branch is a dependency you can follow all the way to a release.

Nothing here is a date. It is a map of what must be true before the next thing can grow.

Now growing

Grown from docs/plan/milestones.md. Statuses sync from the IRIX 7 Roadmap project.

Colophon

How to read the tree

This is not a Gantt chart. It is a dependency map: a branch can only grow when the wood beneath it is strong enough.

Branches

Solid boughs are the plan's structure. Dotted arcs are cross-links — compatibility needs storage, X11 needs a display, every branch meets at v1.0.

Status

Colour is the state of the work, not its size. Hollow, dashed rings are still exploratory. The compost holds what v1.0 deliberately leaves out.

The roots

M0–M2 are the foundations: toolchain, ROM and kernel. Without them nothing above can be true, which is why they are underground.

The source

Everything here is generated from roadmap.json by build.py. It follows the milestone plan; milestone statuses sync from IRIX 7 — Roadmap on a schedule, statuses updated 27 October 2026.
